Dr. Emily Spivey is an assistant professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at New Mexico State University. She joined the faculty in 2024 after completing her Ph.D. in Criminal Justice & Criminology from Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. Prior to this, she received a M.S. and B.S. In Criminal Justice from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX. Her dissertation examined how criminal record stigma combines with other stigmatized statuses to affect prosocial outcomes for women navigating life post-incarceration. Her research has appeared in peer-reviewed journals, including Sexual Abuse and Deviant Behavior.
Research interests: reentry, desistance, intersectionality, criminological theory, collateral consequences of exposure to the criminal justice system, criminal record stigma
