Dr. Jessica Corey is an assistant professor in the Criminal Justice Department at NMSU. She earned her PhD in Criminology and a certificate in Program Evaluation from The University of Texas at Dallas. Prior to this, she received her master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Sam Houston State University in 2012. Dr. Corey has firsthand experience working in the Texas state prison system as a mental health practitioner. She primarily worked in a maximum-security correctional facility, though has had the opportunity to travel and work in many prison units across Texas. She also gained experience working as a mental health manager, supervising mental health staff across four prison units. Dr. Corey believes her practitioner experience is incredibly valuable to incorporate when teaching students in the classroom. She further utilizes this practitioner experience to enhance her research. Dr. Corey’s primary’s research interests include corrections, mental health, and program evaluation. She is open to other areas of research and encourages students to reach out to her with their research interests or questions.
